X, the social media platform owned by Elon Musk, recently released a report that will discuss how users engage with live video content. According to a post from a verified @Live account on X, starting soon Premium subscribers only will be able to live streams. These changes include going live from the encoder with X integration1
With advertising revenue continuing to be a concern for X, Musk and co. are increasingly focused on growing the premium subscription model. The X Premium subscription starts at ₹215/month (on the web) and goes up to ₹1,133 for the Premium+ tier.
Live-streaming on X will soon require a premium subscription, costing $8/month or $84/year. This X Premium tier also unlocks exclusive features like the coveted blue checkmark, creator subscriptions, larger posts, and a reduced ad experience.
This move aligns with Elon Musk’s revenue-boosting efforts for X. Earlier, he proposed a “small fee” for new accounts to post, aiming to curb spam. Free users would then be limited to following and reading posts.
Interestingly, this follows X’s recent switch to hiding user likes by default, a change Musk claims has led to a global surge in likes.
In a post on X, he said that there has been a “massive increase in likes after they were made private.”
“Important to allow people to like posts without getting attacked for doing so!” Musk said in another post on X.
X claims that it is prioritising user privacy by making all likes private by default. This means users can “like” content without concern about who sees it. However, the rollout seems patchy, with some users seeing the “private likes” feature already.
Number of members
X offers three types of subscriptions:
1. Basic: Features include editing text, longer text, longer video uploads, preferences, text editing, bookmark folder, and custom app icons. At the basic level, customers pay $3/month or $32/year.
2. Premium: Customers get all the features from the Basic tier, plus other benefits like blue checkmark, fewer ads, creator subscriptions, ad revenue sharing, and more. The premium tier costs $8/month or $84/year.
3. Premium+: This top-tier subscription includes all the features of the previous tier, plus no ads “For You” or “Follow” tabs, great post enhancements, and the ability to subscribe to Premium+ users for redemption $16/month will pay $168/year1.
Income Management
The move is part of X’s efforts to increase revenue. Earlier this year, Musk hinted that new users could be charged a “small fee” to send immediately after creating an account, aiming to combat spam and bots Those who haven’t paid yet can only read information from other accounts
Although no precise implementation date has been specified, the conversion of X to premium c
all other major social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, YouTube and TikTok do not require users to have a premium subscription to start a livestream.
Since taking over the social media platform in 2022, Elon Musk has introduced a number of changes, including ending the old verified programme, rebranding the company from Twitter to X and removing the ability to block accounts. However, the app doesn’t require a fee to use basic features such as starting a livestream, which could be a sign of things to come.
The Basic tier includes features like editing posts, longer posts, longer video uploads, reply prioritization, text formatting, bookmark folders, custom app icons, and more. Users who subscribe to the Basie tier pay $3/month or $32/year.
X users who opt for the Premium tier pay $8/month or $84/year. Features to the second tier include all the features from the Basic tier, and in addition, you will get the blue checkmark, fewer ads, creator subscriptions, participation in ads revenue sharing, and much more.
Premium+ users pay $16/month or $168/year and get all the previous features from the two other tiers plus no ads in the For You or Following tabs, and a larger reply boost, plus the ability to write articles.
The move is the latest attempt by Musk’s company to increase revenue. Earlier this year, Musk teased an idea to charge a “small fee” to allow new users to post on X immediately after creating an account, in an effort to avoid spam and bots. Users who don’t pay, would only be allowed to read posts from other accounts.
Notably, Musk had hinted earlier this year that X may soon charge new users a small fee to allow them to post on the platform. The platform has already started charging new users in the Philippines and New Zealand $1 for the posting privileges.
